Gerardo Seoane Sacked by Borussia Mönchengladbach After Poor Start

Borussia Mönchengladbach have dismissed head coach Gerardo Seoane following a disappointing start to the 2025/26 Bundesliga season. With just one point from three matches and no goals scored, the club turned to reserve-team coach Eugen Polanski as caretaker manager.

Gladbach Sack Seoane After Winless Run

The decision to part ways with Gerardo Seoane came after Gladbach collected just one point from their opening three Bundesliga fixtures. A 0-0 draw against Hamburg was followed by defeats to Stuttgart and a heavy 4-0 home loss to Werder Bremen.

The poor form extended beyond this season. Gladbach went ten Bundesliga matches without a victory across two campaigns, leaving the club with little confidence that Seoane could turn things around.

Roland Virkus, Gladbach’s sporting director, confirmed the move, stating the club had lost belief in a revival under Seoane’s leadership.

Eugen Polanski Takes Over as Caretaker Coach

Former midfielder Eugen Polanski, currently in charge of the club’s reserves, has been appointed caretaker manager. He will lead the first team while the board evaluates long-term coaching options.

The appointment comes at a crucial time, with Gladbach desperate to register their first Bundesliga win of the season and to finally find the back of the net after three goalless games.

Seoane’s Record at Borussia-Park

Seoane took charge of Borussia Mönchengladbach in July 2023 after a spell with Bayer Leverkusen. In his first campaign, he guided the Foals to a seventh-place Bundesliga finish, but the team slipped to 13th last season.

Across 78 competitive matches, Seoane recorded 25 wins, 20 draws, and 33 defeats. While he initially brought optimism, results in 2024/25 and the poor start to 2025/26 sealed his fate.

Gladbach Face Crucial Fixtures Ahead

Gladbach’s struggles leave them among the Bundesliga’s lowest scorers, alongside Hamburg, as the only two teams yet to score this season. The club now hopes Polanski can inject energy and confidence into the squad before upcoming fixtures.

With pressure mounting and Bundesliga rivals already pulling ahead, the next few games will be vital in shaping Gladbach’s season.
