Briatore Names Colapinto and Aron as Contenders for Alpine Seat in 2026

Flavio Briatore has revealed that Franco Colapinto and Paul Aron are the two leading candidates for Alpine’s second Formula 1 seat in 2026. With Pierre Gasly confirmed at the team until 2028, the focus has shifted to who will partner him at the Enstone-based outfit next season.

Alpine’s Driver Lineup for 2026 Takes Shape

Pierre Gasly recently secured his long-term future with Alpine, extending his contract until 2028. This leaves only the second seat undecided as the team prepares for the 2026 Formula 1 season.

According to Alpine Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore, the choice is between Franco Colapinto and Paul Aron. The Italian confirmed ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix that the team is closely monitoring both drivers before making a final decision.

Colapinto Struggles While Aron Waits for F1 Chance

Franco Colapinto was promoted mid-season to replace Jack Doohan but has yet to make a strong impact. The Argentine has failed to score points so far, with his best result being 11th place.

Paul Aron, meanwhile, has not yet made his F1 race debut. The Estonian talent impressed in Formula 2, finishing third in his rookie season, and has gained experience with three FP1 sessions – two with Kick Sauber and one with Alpine as reserve driver.

Briatore Evaluating Options Without Bias

Briatore emphasized that personal ties will not influence Alpine’s decision, stressing that his only goal is to select the best driver for the team’s future.

“It’s between Franco and Paul,” Briatore told The Race. “I don’t care about management ties; my interest is only in choosing the right driver for Alpine.”

The former Renault boss, known for discovering stars like Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso, admitted he has yet to see that same standout spark in the current field.

Looking Ahead: Alpine’s 2026 Lineup Decision

With Alpine aiming to rebuild for the 2026 season, the battle between Colapinto and Aron will likely be decided in the coming races. Briatore confirmed the team will use the next few fixtures to evaluate both contenders before announcing their final choice.

As Alpine prepares for the new Formula 1 regulations in 2026, the decision on Gasly’s teammate could prove pivotal for the team’s long-term ambitions.
