South Africa secured a dominant 67-30 victory over Argentina in Durban, with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu setting a new record for most points in a Springboks Test match. The emphatic win lifted the Springboks to the top of the Rugby Championship standings.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu Breaks Springboks Record
Fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu delivered a historic performance, scoring 37 points—the highest ever by a South African in a Test match. His tally included three tries, eight conversions, and two penalties, surpassing Percy Montgomery’s 2007 record of 35 points against Namibia.
The 23-year-old described the experience as “a vibe,” emphasizing that the team focused on translating their training efforts into a high-quality game.
Springboks Edge Tight First Half
Despite Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s brilliance, South Africa led by only two points at halftime. Malcolm Marx added another try, but Argentina responded strongly. Santiago Chocobares capitalized on a rare Cheslin Kolbe error to score, while a penalty try and three penalties from Santiago Carreras kept Los Pumas competitive.
Second-Half Dominance Secures Victory
The Springboks took full control after the break, thrilling the 45,000 fans in Durban. Kolbe redeemed himself with a try, while Pieter-Steph du Toit, Morne van den Berg, and Manie Libbok all crossed the line. Feinberg-Mngomezulu completed his hat-trick as South Africa pulled away to seal the bonus-point win.
South Africa Go Top of the Rugby Championship
With this Rugby Championship victory, South Africa moved one point ahead of New Zealand, who had briefly led the table earlier after defeating Australia. The Springboks now sit in pole position to claim their third Rugby Championship title in the current format.
The decisive fixture comes on 4 October at Twickenham, when South Africa face Argentina once again. A bonus-point win would guarantee the title, but the Springboks could also secure glory if Australia upset New Zealand in Perth.
