Former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández is reportedly prepared to take over at Manchester United “immediately” if Ruben Amorim is dismissed, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Spanish legend is closely monitoring the Premier League and is eager for a chance to prove himself in England.
Xavi Monitoring Premier League Opportunities
Romano revealed that Xavi has been following the Premier League closely as he prepares for a return to management. Despite being out of work since leaving Barcelona in May 2024, the 45-year-old is said to be enthusiastic about the possibility of managing in England.
According to Romano, Xavi would even accept the Manchester United job without European football on offer, highlighting his determination to test himself in the English top flight. However, Romano also stressed that there are currently no negotiations underway.
Ruben Amorim Under Pressure at Manchester United
Current manager Ruben Amorim is under increasing scrutiny after a poor start to the Premier League season. United sit in 14th place after six matches, with just two victories to their name.
The Portuguese coach could face mounting pressure if results do not improve quickly. Reports suggest that United are already assessing alternatives, with Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola also mentioned as potential candidates.
Fabrizio Romano on Xavi’s Readiness
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano explained Xavi’s intentions:
“I can guarantee to you on Xavi Hernández, as I also get many questions about him and Manchester United, that Xavi is studying the Premier League. He would go immediately to Man United, even without European football.”
Romano emphasized that while Xavi is ready to step in, there are currently “no talks at all” regarding an imminent appointment.
Xavi’s Managerial Career So Far
Xavi was dismissed as Barcelona manager in May 2024 after three seasons in charge. During his time at Camp Nou, he guided the team to the La Liga title and Spanish Super Cup in 2022/23, winning 91 games out of 143.
Before taking charge of Barcelona, Xavi managed Qatari side Al-Sadd after retiring as a player in 2019. His managerial experience, combined with his illustrious playing career, makes him one of the most intriguing free agents in world football.
Xavi’s Legacy as a Player
Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, Xavi spent 17 years with Barcelona, winning four Champions League titles and eight La Liga trophies. He also starred for Spain, lifting the 2010 World Cup as well as Euro 2008 and Euro 2012.
What’s Next for Manchester United?
As pressure mounts on Amorim, speculation over his future continues to grow. While no official talks have been held with Xavi or other candidates, Manchester United may be forced to act quickly if results do not improve.
With a manager of Xavi’s pedigree openly interested in the job, the Red Devils could have a major decision to make in the coming weeks.
